The East Gippsland Rail Trail is the region's flagship ride: around 95km of sealed and gravel rail trail from Bairnsdale to Orbost, through farmland, forest and river country. It follows the old railway line, so the grades are gentle the whole way and it suits riders of most abilities.
Take on the full trail over a couple of days, or start at Bairnsdale, Nicholson, Bruthen, Nowa Nowa or Orbost and ride a section as an out-and-back.
The trail has its own committee and its own website, with maps, access points and current trail conditions.
